This Year at Dublin Fringe Festival
Hello wonderful sponsors who helped to make The Shitstorm happen for last year's Fringe!
Some of you made it to the show - but for those of you who couldn't - the whole team worked incredibly hard to present a taste of surreal Island magic with a punk heartbeat through a sold out run. Ian Toner was nominated for best actor, and reviews included:
"The Shitstorm is the shit" (Arts Review)
"The Shitstorm is about self-belief, to be held to whether or not you’ve got anything worth believing in… Directed slickly by Maeve Stone" (Sunday Independent)
This year Maeve Stone is teaming up with renowned Australian feminists THE RABBLE to create UNWOMAN Part III. Starring Olwen Fouéré it an exploded ordnance site of what it is to be 'Unwoman'.
Work began between Kate Davis, Maeve Stone and Emma Valente in 2016 at The Malthouse in Melbourne over a two week residency and continued in Dublin 2017 at Dublin Fringe where the group worked with five pregnant women and an ensemble of young female identifying performers.
UNWOMAN Part III is the third part of this sequence, focusing on the post-menopausal body and sees the creative collaboration extend to include Olwen Fouéré, one of the country’s most innovative and celebrated makers. Accepting her Special Tribute from the Irish Times Theatre Awards in 2015 she said “Some people think art should reflect society, I don’t think that. I think art should cause disturbance. Artists need to be leaders. Instead of being part of the system, we need to rock it”. We agree. This is the best of Irish and Australian talent combining to create a uniquely feminist work.
