THE LESSON by Eugene Ionesco

By Zoe Reardon

description

Hello there potential funders,

My name is Zoe Ni Riordain and I'm the director of THE LESSON by Eugene Ionesco. The play is coming to the Project Arts Centre this May and we are looking for your help to make it happen.

We have put together a great team of people to bring Ionesco's dark comedy to the stage for the first time in Dublin since 1951. The project came about when myself and Lisa Walsh (Talking Shop Ensemble) discussed revisiting Ionesco's work, having worked on some of his other plays at Trinity College Dublin. Our passion for the playwright, and a desire to bring his work to a new audience has driven the project to the stage it's at now. There is a great creative team in place, a great venue, production support from Rough Magic Theatre Company, and all that is needed now is YOUR help to get the play to the stage.

We are looking for financial support to cover production costs which include set construction, insurance and promotional materials. Any contribution, big or small is greatly appreciated.

Help us bring THE LESSON out of the classroom!

Every day is a school day

The pupil has come for her lesson. Her exams are in 3 weeks..

The Professor has a lesson plan, but the Maid doesn’t like it.

As the pupil asks the big questions, the lesson begins to unravel and the pair get locked in a battle of wits and teeth.

Daniel Reardon stars as the Professor who takes the lesson too far.

Written in 1951 by Eugene Ionesco (Rhinoceros, The Chairs) THE LESSON is a classic of absurdist theatre. This dark classroom comedy asks us to question everything, and believe nothing.

Or does it?
