The Baltimore Waltz

By Blue Heart Theatre

description

Blue Heart Theatre is delighted to announce a new production of Paula Vogel's award winning play, 'The Baltimore Waltz'.

In the play, Anna and her beloved brother Carl, finally make a long planned trip to Europe in search of a cure for her recently diagnosed terminal illness. But when they get there, nothing is as it seems. Why is Carl always in his pyjamas? Who is the mysterious Third Man? And why do none of their holiday snaps look anything like the places they visit?

This serious comedy was American playwright Vogel's response to the death of her brother, who died from complications due to AIDS. Whilst it has established itself as a modern American classic, this will be its first professional production in Ireland. We intend to put the play on in March, 2015 in Dublin and Sligo.

Contributing to our Fundit campaign will help us put on a high quality production in terms of staging and costumes and allow us to pay a set and lighting designer. It will also allow us to have a comprehensive marketing campaign which as a new company with an unknown play we will need. Finally we have also been asked to take the play to Sligo as well as Dublin and it will help us transport the set/costumes/actors!

Blue Heart Theatre are an exciting new company formed partly from former and existing members of Acting Out, Dublin’s LGBT community theatre and some new collaborators. Blue Heart aim to present new and unknown plays in Ireland and the UK, in a fresh and innovative way.

Director of the play Ayrton O’Brien said, ‘This is a great play to do as whilst it has many comic moments there is an underlying sadness to the piece, and getting that balance is a real challenge for us’
