"It's human to seek out what hurts us." – Marcel Proust... But it doesn't hurt to seek out a little human help!
Souvenir is a new play written by Bush Moukarzel. It is a playful and brave examination of Marcel Proust’s “Remembrance of Things Past” in the centenary year of the novel’s publication. This one-man show performed by Bush himself will be presented in The New Theatre as part of Absolut Fringe Festival 2012.
Alongside Bush (whose recent credits include When Harvey Met Bob and Ripperstreet for BBC and whose work for Pan Pan Theatre has been described as “excellent” by The Irish Times), we have an extraordinary creative team who will realise Bush’s artistic vision of Proust’s world, including Ben Kidd (Director), Andrew Clancy (Set Design), John Crudden (Lighting Design) and with original music composed especially for the show by Adam Welsh.
For Bush ‘the show enables the audience to absorb Proust’s ideas, to experience and interpret what Proust meant when he said "Better to dream your life than to live it". The show will combine music, text and magic to bring the longest novel ever written to the stage.
The French Embassy in Ireland has very kindly supported this production and with box office income we can cover rehearsal and pre-production costs. All the artists working on the show are involved because it is a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with other artists on a very unique project, and sadly, there are no fees involved. We need to raise at least another €2000 to cover the costs to create Andrew’s set (which he is building himself in his workshop!), and to cover other production expenses.
To entice the philanthropist within you, Chez Max Restaurants have put together some fantastic rewards for anyone who sponsors the show. Chez Max have a traditional French café on Palace Street, a sister restaurant on Baggot Street and an epicerie offering fresh French pastries and baguettes everyday.
We invite you to join us in enjoying Chez Max’s “everything French” philosophy by supporting this very special production of Souvenir at this year’s Absolut Fringe Festival.
Thank you. The Souvenir Team
