SAFEHOUSE is a tragic story of love, desperation, perseverance and death during the Troubles. Two injured lovers salvage their last moments together against a provocative and brutal Borderland landscape before they meet their deaths. It explores the futility of morality against an unstoppable violent enemy, the strength that comes from a fighting spirit and the sacrifices that are made to spare a lover pain and suffering.
SYNOPSIS: A young, severely injured female informant, Lorraine, wakes in an empty IRA safehouse and makes her escape along the long and empty coastal road. She is pursued into nearby fields by her lover Seán who tells her they are in hiding from Republican killers and gets her to recall their previous abduction and injury in their escape during the night. With a car on its way to kill them, Seán must persuade a dying Lorraine to return to the safehouse and give everything they’ve got into a final fight against their killers.
This is a minimal and atmospheric short film with a bleak and brutal tone that takes place in one of the most provocative landscapes in Ireland, in the shadows of the Cooley Moutains, next to an isolated coast and deep in Táin country. The film will utilise the best of a jaw-dropping location, have intense perfomances, an original soundtrack and breathtaking cinematography and imagery from talented industry professionals.
A seasoned and experienced crew of young professional filmmakers is committed to creating and realising the world of SAFEHOUSE, including producer Emmaline Dowling and cinematographer Tommy Fitzgerald. See a showreel of Tommy’s work at this link: http://vimeo.com/24770058
Attached to play Lorraine is Irish actress Olga Wehrly (‘Raw’, ‘The Clinic’, Oscar-nominated short film ‘The Crush’). Olga’s IMDB page: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2157942/

If this project is to be made possible, we require a minimal budget of €1,500 to fund our equipment, transport, catering, costume and prop costs. It’s a significantly low amount to fund a short film of this scale but our team has been incredibly resourceful and inventive in order to keep costs at a bare minimum without jeaprodising the quality of the production.
Please help support our short film with any donation you can afford to give. We would be forever grateful if you can help us realise this project and be apart of its journey.
Please remember that you can help us keep costs down by choosing not to accept a reward or to accept a few of them. If you have any questions at all or would like to contact us, please do not hesitate to get in touch: SafehouseShortFilm@gmail.com
Thank you!
