Performance Nights at Studio 6

By Roisin Bohan

description

About me:

Hi! My name is Roisin Bohan and I am an independent curator based in Dublin. I am looking for support towards a performance series that will take place over three nights in 2016.

Upon receiving my B.A in Fine Art from Crawford College of Art & Design in 2014, I was awarded a one-year studio with Monster Truck Studios via the RDS Student awards. I am a member of the collective ‘The Performance Caravan’, with whom I recently performed at the Dublin Live Art Festival in November. Recent performative work of mine also features in the newly published book ‘Performance Art in Ireland: A History’ by Aine Philips. Curatorial projects of mine include ‘LEVEL’, a seven-person show including an evening of performances, held in The MART gallery last February, and ‘One After Another’, a three-person show held in Monster Truck Studios last August. I currently hold the position of Assistant Curator at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios and I was Project Assistant with Dublin Gallery Weekend, a three day visual arts festival which took place for the first time last September.

Why Crowd funding?:

I’m seeking support to make Performance Nights @ Studio 6 happen. I’m awaiting response from a local arts office regarding project funding and in order to be considered for this I must receive a percentage of the budget from other funding sources. The project has already been hugely supported through in-kind support from Temple Bar Gallery + Studios and Dance House Ireland, and I want to ensure that this brilliant opportunity can be seen through to the end.

About the project:

The performance series will present work by three emerging and dedicated artists: Holly O’Brien, Alba Lorca and Natasha Bourke, whose work I have had the pleasure of experiencing many times before and have also worked with on various projects. I felt a strong link between these three artists work, through many elements, such as their uncanny characterisation of the body and use of choreography, their use of light and sound to create captivating atmospheres, and their creative use of props and costumes, which merge elements of theatre and visual art. Within their individual performances they also invite other artists such as musicians, dancers and sounds artists to work with them.

Your help:

Your support will enable the development of new performance works by these artists through exciting collaborations, resulting in complete visual, aural and sensory experiences. Not only will you be helping many artists, but you will also help to create an exciting programme of public events held in Dublin City Centre, contributing to the great culture the city has to offer. The events will be free of charge so that everyone may come and be enraptured by the spectacle of costumes, lights, sound, atmosphere and suspense.

Also, with your support I will be able to pay the artists’, hire a photographer, videographer and technician for each event, pay for transport, hire equipment and promote the events.

Thank you very much for reading!
