On Our Way

On Our Way is my third short film as Writer/Director and my second collaboration with Cinematographer Orla Russell-Conway. My last short Henry & Sunny (2009) was highly successful, screening at numerous film festivals in Ireland, U.K., Europe and the U.S.A.

The film won the public vote in the Rotterdam Film Festival’s ‘New Arrivals’ competition and the Best Cinematographer prize at the Underground Cinema Awards in Dublin 2010. I was nominated for Best Director and Dorothy Cotter for Best Actress at the Feel Good Film Festival 2010 in Hollywood, L.A.

About me:

I have a BA in English and Media from University of Limerick and an MA in Film (Theory & Production) from Dublin Institute of Technology. Prior to filming On Our Way, I wrote & directed the award-winning short films Henry & Sunny and Tom Waits Made Me Cry. In 2011, I won the BlueCat International Fellini Screenwriting Award for my feature script Calvin & Skye. I was named a semi-finalist in Francis Ford Coppola’s American Zoetrope Screenplay Contest in 2012. I have directed music videos and contribute film reviews to The Mayo News and State Magazine. I live and work in Dublin.

About Orla:

Cinematographer Orla Russell-Conway has a BA in English Literature & Geography from UCD and a first class honours MA in Film (Theory & Production) from Dublin Institute of Technology. With numerous film and television credits to her name, primarily in camera and cinematography, including Director of Photography on the multi-award winning short film “Full Circle”, she has a strong background in film production. Orla’s talents as a gifted cinematographer and artist were recently recognized in her being awarded a substantial grant by the Arts & Disability Forum (an Arts Council of Ireland/Northern Ireland Arts Council joint-funded body), for the purchase of her own camera kit. In September 2010, Orla won the award for Best Cinematography at the Underground Cinema Awards in Dublin.

About On Our Way:

A chance encounter between two lost souls leads to a night of unexpected revelations, late night coffee and bottle-smashing. Unfolding over the course of a single night, On Our Way is a hopeful tale of missed connections and second chances.

Written and directed by myself the film stars Dorothy Cotter (Henry & Sunny, The Savage Eye) and Matthew Keenan (Henry & Sunny, The Tudors, The Clinic). With cinematography by Orla Russell-Conway, the film was produced by myself and Noni Stapleton and edited by Nick Callan (Henry & Sunny).

About how your money will be used:

I produced and directed On Our Way on a shoestring budget and I am now seeking your help to cover the cost of DVD duplication, marketing material (postcards, posters) and festival submissions. With your help I hope to emulate Henry & Sunny’s success on the festival circuit and I promise to keep you informed of every festival screening via the film's website and social media.
