Welcome to the Le Cheile Arts and Music Festival 2011 !!!!
Run each year within the picture-esque surroundings of the Loughcrew hills, in Oldcastle, Co Meath, Le Cheile has been forging the path for introducing new up and coming Irish musicians and Artists to the festival experience.
Oldcastle is a town long associated with Culture, Music and Arts. From the Hills of Loughcrew and its megalithic Cairns, which are older than the Pyramids, to the famous Lynch Brothers of Showband fame, through to world renowned wood sculpter Joey Burns, energy and talent seems to flow endlessly from this small town of just over 2000 people.
It was this energy and passion that lead to four musicians sitting down one evening 14 years ago this year, after coming off tour and realising that there was a need to establish an outlet and a forum for all this energy. Something that would grab the town's attention and shake it from its slumber. 14 years later, and Oldcastle still shakes every August Bank holiday when Le Cheile opens it's doors to the cream of Irelands talents.
This year provides possibly one of the biggest and best line up's to date.
Included are Sharon Shannon, Ham Sandwich, Ryan Sheridan, Aslan, Duke Special, The Hothouse Flowers, CODES and Shouting at Planes and many many more. Over 30 acts, 3 stages , plus Street Entertainment, Jewelry workshops, Art workshops, Live Arts/Exhibitions, Theatre, Historical Walks, Street Markets, Busking Festivals, and much much more are all available at Le Cheile 2011!!!
Where will your money go......? Le Cheile is and always has been, a voluntarily run festival since its inception 14 years ago. This has meant ordinary people giving up their time and expertise purely to bring each year together. A large part of our work over recent years has been raising funds for Advertising and Marketing for our unique Festival.
As a non profit organisation, Le Cheile annually starts with a fresh page from which to bring the festival together. All money raised with FundIT.ie will go towards Advertising and Marketing the festival to reach to a broader audience to highlight our great event. Le Cheile will use this funding to expand our exposure in the national media and also to market the event to a wider audience both domestically and abroad.
We are truly passionate about what we do.You will be hard pushed to find another festival committee that is so in tune with its roots. A Chairman who welds stages together, then sets up lighting & PA systems. A Secretary who goes to schools to spread the Le Cheile arts message, then paints, decorates, constructs and maintains an outdoor stage. A PRO who delivers press releases, and also lugs stages and barriers across town. A Financial officer who has a young family but who still tracks each and every transaction, sells tickets and ensures all bands are paid correctly. Why do we do all this? Because it's what we enjoy, its brings us 'Le Cheile'
