Galway Designers Studio House is an idea which grew from combining each of our desires, passions and experience into something bigger to assist in the growth of our individual businesses, along with that of other independent designers within Galway. The concept for this project has grown from a recognised need for creative individuals to collaborate together in a community based retail space, with an edge. Our vision is to create a new shopping experience, moving away from high street stores, and stepping forward to a more ethical way to shop and support the fashion industry! The shop will operate differently than that of a regular retail shop; we will be providing the space for local designers to ‘rent’ a rail / table / window display in order to sell their designs, thus making it more accessible for independents to get their designs out into the public eye. Within the shop, we will also provide a working studio, where designers can work from in a professional environment, along with providing information evenings, courses and monthly events to help boost and promote their businesses. This is a fantastic opportunity for our local design community to expand!
The 3 creators of this business, Ann Petrov, of Cozy Handmade Designs, Virtue Shine of Emerald & Wax and Gayle Poppers of Kizmet Clothing, each run our own design businesses, along with all being busy working mums. The 3 of us have varied, yet extensive experience within the fashion industry, ranging from styling, marketing, event organising, merchandising and much more. We all wish to expand our businesses further, and feel that collaboration is the best way to make this possible. Prior to this project, Gayle and Ann started the non profit organisation Galway Designers Network, to help promote and bring awareness to fellow independent designers. The network is expanding daily, with huge positive feedback about how well needed it is in within the Galway designers community. This next project is growing from that, and the network will provide many strong connections in building the business up off the ground.
We need to raise €11,000 in order to get the project off the ground. We have analysed how much it will cost for a premise deposit, rent for the first few months, along with fit out of the shop. We also need start up money in order to create a strong marketing campaign to get the word out about what we are doing, to get designers onboard and to get customers through the door! We do have an extensive business plan in place, so that we can see clearly beyond the first few months and how the business will grow. With many designers already interested in coming onboard, we see it as a progression which will happen quite organically, once the initial start up money is sought.
We would like to thank you wholeheartedly for reading about our project.
